  1. The Grand Forks Region EDC is holding our 2019 Annual Meeting at 4 p.m Thursday, March 28 in the Alerus Center. Threshold of Opportunity: A Region In Motion will focus on the momentum of our primary sector in 2018 and the opportunities that lie ahead. Registration is now open.
  2. Grand Forks Day at the Legislature was held Feb. 28-March 1 to discuss the Grand Forks Air Force Base, workforce development, education, construction, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and more.Day 1: Successes and needs

  3. Grand Forks Mayor Mike Brown delivered his 2019 State of the City address to a sold-out crowd of nearly 600 people. In it, he predicted a billion-dollar boom. He hailed several EDC-led efforts, including the success of Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler Than You Think.
  4. The North Dakota Senate has passed legislation that would fund research at the state’s two largest universities in an effort to diversify North Dakota’s economy. The bill awaits House action in the second half of the legislative session. Read more.
  5. About 200 land surveyors and industry partners attended this quarter’s DroneBiz event, which focused on a new technology in UAS called photogrammetry.
  6. The Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler Than You Think initiative hosted Coolerama, celebrating our cooler weather and unveiling a snow sculpture in Town Square.
  7. DJI, the world’s largest drone manufacturer, recently featured Grand Forks in a video highlighting the nation’s first food delivery by drone at King’s Walk Golf Course.
  8. At Wake Up for Start Ups, the Evolve Grand Forks annual meeting, Evolve Analytics CEO Joshua Riedy and Evolve GF Executive Director Collin Hanson highlighted our region’s culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. A focus of 2018 was the Main Street Challenge.
  9. Grand Forks Region EDC President & CEO Keith Lund serves two regional committees launched in February: a search committee led by UND’s Vice President for Research seeking six computational scientists; and a task force created by the Grand Forks East Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce to address retail challenges in the community. Actions by both committees will have a major impact on the EDC’s strategic objectives of driving innovations from university-related research through technology transfer and growing technology-based business.
  10. Congratulations to Warren Sai and French Taste LLC, a StartUp Grand Forks recipient! French Taste celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 14 in the UND Memorial Union.
