COnnecting Interns to Grand Forks
The InternGF summer internship cohort is a program for interns working in the greater Grand Forks region. This summer event series gives students the opportunity to network, explore the cooler culture of our region, connect with young professionals, and imagine a future for themselves in greater Grand Forks. This program is separate from the InternGF funding program, which helps offset the cost of starting a new internship at your company.
Closing Ceremony RSVP
Thursday, August 7th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The InternGF Summer Cohort Closing Ceremony is all about celebrating the wonderful interns who have participated in our program throughout the summer. The dinner will be held at The Opal Room downtown. Please dress in cocktail attire for this event.
Overview
Benefits
Interns in this program will gain a comprehensive perspective on the diverse opportunities and thriving industries in the Grand Forks area. Engaging directly with influential leaders in greater Grand Forks gives them an opportunity to grow their connections and build their networking skills. By developing a deeper insight into the workforce, students will feel motivated and positive about their ability to make an impact in Grand Forks and their future careers!
Cost
There is no cost to participate in the Cohort. The program is led by the Grand Forks Region EDC, UND’s Center for Innovation, and UND’s Experiential Learning Center. The program is partially funded by a grant from the Knight Foundation’s Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, and Region.
Commitment
Offering an incredible opportunity to build connections and knowledge, participants must be able to attend at least 5 out of the 6 sessions. Interns must be able to attend both the kickoff session on June 11 and the graduation ceremony on August 13.
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate, you must:
- be enrolled in college
- have an internship at a Grand Forks company OR have a teaching/research assistantship at UND with summer working hours.
- have not participated in past InternGF Summer Cohort

Programming Information
Interns will participate in six sessions that focus on specific topics and features of the Grand Forks region. Each session will provide the opportunity to connect with other program interns and learn more about the topic.
Session 1 |June 11, 9 AM-4 PM
The Kickoff
This kick-off will welcome greater Grand Forks interns with an immersion program and give them the real scoop on our community. The day will include downtown tours, networking 101, and introductions to local leaders.
Session 2 | June 25, 9 AM-4 PM
Volunteering
This region has a thriving non-profit sector. Interns will choose two volunteer activities from six different options, with help from the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals. They will also get the lowdown on joining a board of directors as a young professional.
Session 3 | July 9, 9 AM-4 PM
Industry Mixer
Through a day of company tours, interns will gain insight into the primary sectors that drive the Grand Forks region’s economy. They will have a chance to discover all the region has to offer and connect with local business leadership.
Session 4 | July 23, 9 AM-4 PM
Arts & Culture
Interns will learn about the rich and diverse arts and entertainment hubs in greater Grand Forks. With private classes and tours of regional entertainment powerhouses, interns will get to flex their creative muscles and learn new skills.
Session 5 | August 6, 9 AM-4 PM
Sports & Rec
Getting active in greater Grand Forks is as easy as a walk on the Greenway, a group fitness class in town, kayaking on the Red, or even a visit out to Turtle River State Park. Interns will learn all about regional sports & recreation offerings.

Graduation
Fancy like Applebee’s? Think fancy like Skies 322. Interns will learn the ins and outs of business dinner etiquette and get the chance to flex all the networking skills they’ve built over the summer. This community dinner with regional leadership will serve as a fantastic way to celebrate the cohort graduates and their experience with the program!
