Workforce Development Specialist TEMPORARY
Position Type: Temporary 4-month Contract
Reports To: Director of Workforce Development
Hours Per Week: 20-30 (average 25 hours/week)
Location: Grand Forks, ND
Position Time Frame: February 1 to May 31, 2025
Rate of pay: $22.00/hour

Working Hours: Flexible schedule falling within our office operating hours of Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening work may be necessary.

Position Summary
The Grand Forks Region EDC Workforce Development Specialist serves as an integral part of the EDC’s Workforce Division and will help carry out programming designed to strategically solve workforce challenges experienced by EDC member companies throughout Grand Forks County. This position will bring creative flair, organizational aptitude, and project management techniques to workforce programming such as InternGF and Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler than You Think! recruitment and retention initiative.
General Description of Responsibilities
- Coordinate and track reimbursement requests for InternGF funding program.
- Track workforce development project timelines and metrics.
- Coordinate a team of 5 writers for the “What’s Cooler Today?” blog.
- Revise and edit submitted blogs for publication on grandforksiscooler.com
- Utilize WordPress platform to upload content to website using search engine best practices.
- Participate in creative idea generation and content creation for Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler than You Think’s website, social media, and relocation guide.
- Plan and coordinate workforce-related committee meetings and manage related documents, correspondence, and activities.
- Track workforce development project timelines and metrics.
- Be a presence at regional career events, when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Workforce Development.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities with Willingness to Train the Right Candidate
• Experience with WordPress
• Experience with project management systems such as Monday.com, Asana, Slack, etc.
• Experience with search engine optimization best practices
• Experience with creating graphics using Adobe suite of products or Canva
Marketing & Communications Intern
Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Reports To: Marketing & Communications Manager
Hours Per Week: 15-20
Rate of pay: $15.00/hour
Target Starting Date: January 13, 2025 and continue to at least December 2025

Position Summary
The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation is seeking a dynamic and creative Marketing & Communications Intern to support the marketing and outreach initiatives of the Grand Forks region for business and workforce development. The position offers hands-on experience in a professional environment, providing the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Grand Forks community. The role is ideal for a third- or fourth-year college student seeking a degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
This internship will begin January 2025, 15-20 hours per week. Ideally, the candidate would have the ability to work the internship at least through December 2025, with the option to extend. Rate of pay $15/hour.
Responsibilities
- Social Media Management: Assist in the development, scheduling, and monitoring of social media content for LinkedIn, Facebook, and X.
- Content Creation: Support the creation of digital content, including website updates, newsletters, videos, photos, and graphics.
- Branding & Graphic Design: Assist in creating graphics for campaigns, events, and presentations using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, ensuring a consistent and professional visual representation of the EDC.
- Video Production: Assist in filming, editing, and producing short video content highlighting local businesses, success stories, and regional events for promotional use on social media and other digital platforms.
- Event Support: Assist in the promotion of and preparation of EDC events, including logistics, marketing materials, and on-site support for community and networking events.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support as needed to the Marketing & Communications team, including organizing marketing materials and tracking campaign effectiveness.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, or a related field. Must be entering 3rd or 4th year status or graduate student. May be pursuing an alternative major if you have familiarity and skill in marketing and content creation.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail and grammar.
- Proficiency in social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter/X) and content management.
- Familiarity with graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is helpful, but willing to train the right applicant.
- Basic video editing experience (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or iMovie) is preferred.
- Outstanding interpersonal, creative, organization, and communication skills.
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to multi-task effectively.
- Desire to share new ideas.
Marketing & Communications Intern

The Grand Forks Region EDC is looking for a dynamic self-starter with a creative flair to support our promotion of the greater Grand Forks region. We believe in providing true experiential learning opportunities with a seat at the decision-making table. You’ll be responsible for brand management of the Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler than You Think! talent attraction initiative (gfiscooler.com, @gfiscooler). Your role will include social media content creation, web content development, print media development, and marketing project management.
This internship will begin January 2025, 15-20 hours per week. Ideally, you would have the ability to work the internship at least through December 2025, with the option to extend. Rate of pay $15/hour.
Responsibilities
1. Coordination of Lifestyle Blog: Coordinate with a team of 5 guest writers for “What’s Cooler Today?”, a Grand Forks region lifestyle blog (gfiscooler.com/whats-cooler-today). Pitch content ideas, manage content calendar, coordinate writer schedules, create e-newsletter, upload photos.
2. Website Writing and Maintenance: Aid in updating, writing, and posting content for grandforksiscooler.com while using search engine optimization tactics
3. Social Media Content Creation & Management: Work with a team to track our content calendar, pitch social posts to management, create content using social media trends, manage commenting, and track analytics for @gfiscooler Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
4. Design: Create promotional materials, newsletters, and social media graphics.
5. Photography & Videography (optional): Collect and create photos and videos for Cooler and EDC digital platforms. (if you are not skilled in photography or videography, please still apply!)
6. Event Management: Participate in events that promote Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler than You Think! like career fairs, street fairs, and community events.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, business, entrepreneurship, or English; must be entering 3rd or 4th year status or graduate student. May be pursuing an alternative major if you have familiarity and skill in marketing and content creation.
- Excellent writing skills with familiarization in social media applications
- Experience with graphic design software (Canva/Adobe) helpful (but will train the right applicant)
- Outstanding interpersonal, creative, organization, and communication skills
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to multi-task effectively
- Desire to share new ideas
