- EDC President and CEO Keith Lund was recognized as the Economic Developer of the Year. The award was presented by the Governor’s Office, ND Dept. of Commerce, and the Economic Development Association of North Dakota (EDND) during the EDND Fall Conference in Minot. - The Northern Valley Career Expo just keeps getting bigger and better! This year’s expo was the largest to date- introducing more than 1,700 students to career opportunities in our region. Since launching in 2012, 10,000 students have attended NVCE.
- The EDC hosted a Trade and Tariffs luncheon that provided local businesses resources they can use to leverage Foreign Trade Zones to their advantage. For more information on FTZ’s contact Business Development Manager Brandon Baumbach.
- TechSpark Manager Taya Spelhaug previewed Microsoft’s TechSpark initiative with the EDC board of directors and advisors. The initiative aims to drive economic development in rural america and aligns with the EDC’s goal to increase the concentration of high-tech services in the Red River Valley.
- The Valley Prosperity Partnership sponsored a series of presentations in central and western North Dakota featuring UND President Mark Kennedy and NDSU President Dean Bresciani, They highlighted the importance of investing in university research in order to grow and diversify North Dakota’s economy. - InternGF announced 2019 funding. In partnership with UND’s Center for Innovation, this program provides up to $3,500 to EDC member organizations and startup companies looking to establish a new internship. More information and application.
- EDC Strategic Initiatives Coordinator Becca Cruger was a presenter at the annual ND Downtown Conference in Grand Forks, showcasing the Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler Than You Think initiative and sharing how marketing initiatives can support workforce recruitment efforts. - Austin Mack has joined the EDC team as a business development and marketing specialist. Mack will be supporting UAS business development and assisting with metrics and dashboards.
- EDC staff attended Northland Community & Technical College State of the College luncheon where President Dennis Bona highlighted NCTC’s rising enrollment and recent regional and national recognition for academic excellence.
- J.R. Simplot Company received approval from the Grand Forks City Council, County Commission, and Public School District for a property tax exemption to build a high bay freezer, a $57 million investment in our region.
