Grand Forks Region EDC Top 10- March 2019

  1. Congratulations to Steve Burian, recipient of the 2019 Klaus Thiessen Impact Award! As one of the most visible community volunteers in the region, he has selflessly committed his time and talent to enhance economic growth.
  2. The Grand Forks Jobs Development Authority Business approved a change to the Growth Fund FlexPACE policy. The JDA is now able to consider non-primary sector, for-profit applications on behalf of projects located outside of Grand Forks City.
  3. EDC President & CEO Keith Lund was honored with the Distinguished Mentor Award from the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals. The award is given to an exceptional mentor who’s dedicated a portion of their career to training and developing young professionals in their workplace and around the community.
  4. Northern Plains Rail Services plans to add at least 20 jobs to the region by building a railcar servicing & repair facility in Grand Forks. Construction for Grand Plains Rail Center is expected to begin mid-2019.
  5. EDC Member and Client Countrywide Sanitation received approval for a FlexPACE loan from the Jobs Development Authority to purchase new equipment to increase its recycling operation in the region. 
  6. The Main Street GF Challenge applications are open. The Main Street GF Challenge brings student ideas to life by awarding them support capital to implement their ideas. The program is open to UND and Grand Forks Central/Red River High School students. Applications are due April 23.
  7. Senate Bill 2306, which seeks to create licensing reciprocity for eligible trailing spouses of military personnel, passed unanimously in both the House and Senate. The bill, which would enhance amenities for service members and would positively impact GFAFB’s score for military friendliness, awaits Gov. Burgum’s signature.
  8. Workforce development has always been a strategic priority of the EDC. We work to ensure the region has the talent required to support industry and economic growth through our workforce pipeline. Video.
  9. Grand Forks-based UAS flight operator SkySkopes was featured in the Greater North Dakota Chamber’s Report on Business. The publication also highlighted Xcel Energy’s and BNSF Railway’s use of drone technology.
