Grand Forks, ND – Mayor Michael R. Brown along with City, County and Economic Development Corporation leaders will be traveling to Washington, DC the week of June 20th to be recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Defense Communities in the United States. The award, given by the Association of Defense Communities (ADC), will be presented by Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Co-chair of the Senate Defense Communities Caucus.
Grand Forks joins an exclusive group as the ADC only recognizes 10 communities throughout the country each year. The award highlights the strong connection between the Grand Forks Air Force Base and the City of Grand Forks.
Mayor Michael R. Brown, a former Launch Control Officer at the Grand Forks Air Force Base, has a first-hand appreciation of the connection between the Grand Forks Air Force Base and the City of Grand Forks.
“As a community we’re deeply connected to our Air Force Base.” said Mayor Brown “It was the Air Force Base that brought me to Grand Forks, where I fell in love with the community and people. I’m pleased others are recognizing and celebrating our strong relationship.”
The Association of Defense Communities (ADC) unites the diverse interests of communities, state governments, the private sector and military issues including base closure and realignment, community–military partnerships, mission growth, mission sustainment and military family and veteran support.
