  1. The planning committee for the 6th annual Northern Valley Career Expo is finalizing preparations for the Nov. 1 event. There’s still time to be part of the region’s premier careers awareness event. Exhibitor registration closes Oct. 4. Register online here.
  2. The EDC, The Chamber, and the GFK Airport Authority hosted a kick-off luncheon for a newly-formed  GFK business task force to help obtain air travel information and enhance route service for business and leisure travelers.
  3. The agenda has been finalized for the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) Regional Defense Forum, to be hosted for the first time in Grand Forks Oct. 10 – 11. Plan to attend and hear from a stellar line up about the important role Grand Forks and our region plays in national defense. More information, register here.
  4. We attended Wake Up to UND and continue to be energized by the opportunities to partner with UND and President Mark Kennedy to help our university and region grow. If you missed it, check out highlights here.
  5. “Paving the Way for a Better Grand Forks,” a campaign to support the city’s sales tax measure to fund street improvements and water treatment plant, was launched. The EDC board of directors is on record supporting a sales tax increase, recognizing the importance of infrastructure enhancements for business development.
  6. Business Development Manager Brandon Baumbach has joined the United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks board of directors. United Way has launched its new campaign, “United to Fight Poverty.” More here …
  7. The Grand Forks City Council approved a 10-year, 80% property tax exemption for J.R. Simplot on a $55 million expansion project to add a high-bay freezer and support expanded production capacity at their Grand Forks plant, which is a strategic operation for the company’s distribution to east coast markets.
  8. President & CEO Keith Lund traveled with fellow members of the Base Realignment Impact Committee (BRIC) to the Cavalier station to learn about their critical mission to provide missile warning and space situational awareness for national defense.
