  1. A huge thank you to everyone who came to our 2021 Annual Meeting and celebrated our community’s resilience and future trajectory. We posthumously honored Lonnie Laffen with the Klaus Thiessen Impact Award. Read more here.
  2. A coalition of Grand Forks industry, educational institutions, and community organizations toured Career Centers throughout Cincinnati, OH and Norman, OK to learn about helping students be career-ready and college-prepared. With that, we’re conducting a Grand Forks Workforce Analysis Survey that will help us assess the need for different workforce development efforts. We’d appreciate it if you could participate.
  3. Representatives from Spire Global and Truweather Solutions presented at the first in-person DroneBiz since Covid. About 40 people attended the quarterly networking event to learn about the groundbreaking work the companies are doing in the satellite and weather arenas in partnership with UND’s Research Institute for Autonomous Systems and NASA.
  4. Vantis celebrated the state’s $20-million investment in the unmanned aircraft systems network to expand capabilities to Grand Forks, Traill, and Cass counties. 
  5. Northrop Grumman’s High School Involvement Partnership Program (HIP) just completed its second year. The global aerospace and defense company started the program to help generate interest in students for engineering.
  6. The EDC staff presented to the Grand Forks County Commission in early June, sharing data of growth from the last 10 years.
  7. Thank you to the Grand Forks Herald for featuring Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler Than You Think! and the success of the workforce development initiative, closing in on four years in operation.
  8. Applications are open for 2021 cycle #2 of InternGF! The program offers up to $3,500 to offset an intern’s salary. Apply here.
  9. The North Dakota Department of Commerce reopened the LIFT program which aims to diversify the state’s economy through loans to new businesses beyond agriculture and oil. Eight Grand Forks region companies received $5.3M of funding support to commercialize technology and grow their companies here when the program was launched in 2019.
