Grand Forks Region Top 10- January 2020

  • “The state of our state is strong, it’s growing, and it’s full of boundless opportunity.” That was the message from Gov. Doug Burgum at the 2020 State of the State address, which Grand Forks proudly hosted.
  • The Space Force’s Chief of Space Operations, Gen. John W. “Jay” Raymond visited both UND and the Cavalier Air Force Station. Thank you to Sen. Kevin Cramer for hosting the visit, which signals that North Dakota could have a large role to play in the new military branch. 
  • Congratulations to Kristi Magnuson-Nelson! The CEO of Hugo’s Family Marketplace was awarded the Henry Havig Award, one of the most prestigious honors among the Grand Forks business community, at the Chamber’s annual dinner.
  • LM Wind Power CEO Duncan Berry and GE Renewable Energy CEO Jérôme Pécresse visited with Grand Forks leaders earlier this month. Mayor Mike Brown and EDC President & CEO Keith Lund welcomed and thanked them for GE’s continued investment in our region (photo above).
  • InternGF has awarded funding for 14 internships to 13 companies in 2020. Of those companies, eight are startups within five years of operation. Learn more about InternGF.
  • Paragon Pro secured support from from the city of Grand Forks through the Growth Fund for working capital, as well as the North Dakota Development Fund to purchase a state-of-the-art laser that will help open new opportunities for manufacturing.
  • The New American Workforce Panel addressed challenges faced by immigrants in the Grand Forks region. The panel was an initiative of the City of Grand Forks Welcoming Community Roadmap, and was made possible through collaboration among EDC Workforce & Strategic Initiatives Coordinator Becca Cruger, Job Service North Dakota, Altru, The Chamber, and the Greater Grand Forks Human Resource Association.
  • Congratulations to J.R. Simplot on its milestone acquisition of Pinnacle Agriculture! The expansion allows the company to leverage its services across the global food and global agriculture systems.
  • UAS applications in the energy sector was the topic of January’s DroneBiz. About 40 attended the quarterly networking event, headlined by Kyle Gustofson of Great River Energy’s UAS program.
  • Becca Cruger coordinated a tour of Northrop Grumman with leaders in the regional workforce ecosystem, including Grand Forks Public Schools, University of North Dakota, and N.D. Job Service. The goal of the tour was to continue strengthening the UAS company’s workforce pipeline.
