  2. In the 2019-21 Executive Budget, Governor Burgum announced a $30 million UAS infrastructure proposal to support statewide beyond visual line of sight operations. The executive budget will also propose $3 million to upgrade infrastructure at Grand Sky and $3 million to support operations at the Northern Plains UAS Test Site. Get the full story.

The EDC approved support for an initiative that would enable Grand Forks-based Evolve Analytics to develop a technology platform that will transform how data and imagery are collected from UAS flights and processed for multiple users. The joint project between Evolve and the UND Aerospace Foundation seeks $100,000 from the Microsoft TechSpark program to improve operations currently carried out with less efficiency and accuracy.   5. The Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler than you Think! initiative continues to highlight life in our region and workforce opportunity. Have you seen the latest Cooler profile of community developer, Andy Conlon?
  6. LM Wind Power is expanding again. The company received JDA approval for a $2.5 million facility expansion, which will allow it to produce more of its most demanded blades. LM expects to grow from 800 to 1,000 employees in Grand Forks after the project is completed. Read more.
  7. InternGF, led by EDC workforce and strategic initiatives coordinator Becca Cruger, is entering its second year. WDAZ and UND Today highlighted the program’s impact on UND students, local businesses, and start-ups. Apply for InternGF today.
  8. A third StartUp Grand Forks application has been approved, thanks to support from EDC Business Development Manager Brandon Baumbach. The $2,000 loan from the Jobs Development Authority will help French Taste LLC secure a physical location at the UND Memorial Union. French Taste was created by Warren Sai, a French international student attending UND.
  9. The EDC Board of Directors approved a Valley Prosperity Partnership (VPP) resolution to support expanded research funding, pointing to UND and NDSU as key drivers whose work translates into new economic opportunities, a more skilled workforce, and higher-paying jobs for North Dakotans. Read the resolution.
  10. The City of Grand Forks is awarding nearly $25,000 in grants for projects aimed at transforming the city’s downtown and boosting community ties. The funding comes on the heels of the Longest Table event in early September. More details …
