  1. John Schmisek received the 2018 Klaus Thiessen Impact Award at the EDC’s annual meeting in recognition of his leadership at the city and county level and his tireless work to advance the enhanced use lease with the U.S. Air Force that led to the development of Grand Sky. More …
  2. Altru COO Brad Wehe was elected to his first term with the EDC Board of Directors. Re-elected to second terms were Mac McLennan, CEO of Minnkota Power Cooperative, Tammy Peterson, president of Bremer Bank, and Korrie Wenzel, publisher of the Grand Forks Herald.
  3. Newly appointed advisory board members are Terry Brenner, Grand Forks Public Schools; Matt Dunlevy, SkySkopes; Hesham El-Rewini, UND College of Engineering & Mines; Rachel Gornowicz, Countrywide Sanitation; Chris Wolf, Alerus; and Dave Zavoral, RJ Zavoral & Sons.
  4. UAS Sector Development Manager Wes Shover was a moderator at the Big Data workshop on the UND campus. The event brought UAS researchers and industry executives together to focus on the complexities of managing and computing data for the ag industry. Topics discussed included industry/institutional standards to security, rights and privacy.
  5. Registration is open for the first Corporate Forum cohosted by the UND Division of Research and Economic Development and the EDC. The May 10 event will bring leaders in agriculture, manufacturing, and UAS to share innovative ways they are managing change. It’s free. It’s at the Gorecki Alumni Center.   6. The EDC Board of Directors approved a request to support the Main Street Grand Forks Challenge, a program that will engage UND and area high school students to address social issues and spur civic engagement.
  7. Following a recommendation for approval from the EDC Board of Directors, the Grand Forks Growth Fund and Jobs Development Authority approved a PACE loan for Northern Tier Seeds in Thompson to support an expansion to add equipment that will expand capacity and improve efficiency.
  8. Strategic Initiatives Coordinator Becca Cruger introduced the Greater Grand Forks: Way Cooler Than You Think! imitative to the area Board of Realtors.
  9. President & CEO Keith Lund was a featured speaker at the Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation annual meeting, sharing the region’s story of collaboration to address workforce challenges.
  10. 30YEARStrivia: The EDC celebrated 30 years of impact at its annual meeting with a video highlighting the organization that included reflections from Mike Maidenberg, former publisher of the Grand Forks Herald and one of the organization’s incorporators. Check it out here.
