Awarded employers could receive up to $3,500 to offset an intern’s salary.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. InternGF, presented by the University of North Dakota’s Center for Innovation and the Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation, will officially open applications for the second cycle of the sixth year of the program on Wednesday, March 1. This cycle will fund internships happening during Summer 2023 semester, May 15 – August 4.  The program is designed to increase the number of local internship offerings, aiding employers’ workforce recruitment and retention efforts by introducing UND students to career and entrepreneurial opportunities in the greater Grand Forks region. “The InternGF program and the impact it has on retaining talented young people in our region is so important with today’s workforce challenges,” said EDC Director of Workforce Development Becca Cruger. “The program also supports employers by providing funding up to $3,500 to help offset the cost of an intern’s salary.”

Employers can apply for up to two internships per year. Eligible applicants must be an early-to-mid-stage startup or a member organization of the EDC that can offer an internship not routinely found in the greater Grand Forks region. Startup companies are eligible for a match of 50% and EDC member companies are eligible for a match of 33%.

UND’s Center for Innovation partnered in the program’s inception, providing funds to establish InternGF. Since launching in 2018, the program has funded 76 internships across a spectrum of fields including unmanned systems, engineering, health information technology, and supply chain management.

“It’s our pleasure to connect UND students to employers in our region,” said Center for Innovation Director Amy Whitney. “We want to set our students up for success in their future careers. To complement the learning and growth of their internship, students in the program connect with a Center for Innovation team member to help them think about how to maximize their internship experience, and how to translate learned skills onto their resumes.”

Over $40,000 is available to fund 2023 internships. Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis:

  • Cycle 2 | Opens March 1, 2023
Funds internships in the summer semester
  • Cycle 3 | Opens June 1, 2023
Funds internships in the fall semester
